Washington – June 18, 2025: A renewed strategic partnership took center stage as Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, met with U.S. President Donald J. Trump at the White House on June 18. The meeting, held in the Cabinet Room over a luncheon and later extending into the Oval Office for more than two hours, marked a significant step forward in strengthening US-Pakistan cooperation on regional security, counterterrorism, and strategic dialogue.
President Trump was joined by Secretary of State Senator Marco Rubio and Mr. Steve Witkoff, the U.S. Special Representative for Middle Eastern Affairs. Field Marshal Munir was accompanied by Pakistan’s National Security Advisor.
During the meeting, COAS Munir expressed Pakistan’s gratitude for President Trump’s pivotal role in mediating a ceasefire between Pakistan and India amid a recent crisis. He praised the U.S. President’s statesmanship and ability to address global challenges with clarity and decisiveness.
US-Pakistan cooperation Cooperation Expands Beyond Security
President Trump, in turn, appreciated Pakistan’s consistent role in regional peace. He highlighted Pakistan’s contributions to counter-terrorism, noting the progress made through joint cooperation. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further deepen this collaboration.
Additionally, they explored new dimensions of bilateral US-Pakistan cooperation cooperation. These included trade, economic development, artificial intelligence, energy, cryptocurrency, mining, and emerging technologies. Trump showed keen interest in developing a long-term, mutually beneficial economic relationship with Pakistan.
The discussion also addressed the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict. Both sides agreed that diplomatic efforts must be prioritized to avoid escalation. Trump acknowledged Munir’s decisive leadership during a time of intense regional challenges.
In a gesture of goodwill, Field Marshal Munir invited President Trump to visit Pakistan. The invitation was warmly received, signaling a possible visit in the near future.
