Debunking Zabihullah Mujahid’s statement with data from DG ISPR showing Afghan soil remains a base for terror attacks in 2025 [IC: by AFP]

January 6, 2026

DG ISPR shared detailed facts and figures during a press conference on Tuesday, outlining the scale and sources of terrorism facing the country. After that briefing, Afghan Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid issued a statement rejecting the claims.

This article examines and debunks that response using the data presented by DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry.

While Kabul claims Afghanistan is “stable” and in full control of its territory, the data presented by Pakistan’s military paints a sharply different picture.

The Afghan statement calls the DG ISPR’s remarks “detached from reality” and urges Pakistan to focus on its internal problems. But the evidence shared during the press briefing shows that Afghanistan remains the main operational base for multiple terrorist groups targeting Pakistan.

What the DG ISPR’s briefing revealed

According to the verified data, Pakistani law enforcement agencies carried out 75,175 intelligence-based operations in 2025 alone.

During the year, 5,397 terrorist incidents were recorded across the country and 2,597 terrorists were killed.

More importantly, the military disclosed that Afghan militants were involved in all 10 major terrorist attacks of 2025, most of them targeting civilians and soft targets.

The ISPR chief also revealed that Afghanistan has turned into a hub for terrorist organizations of different kinds, including TTP and other foreign fighters.

He said around 2,500 foreign terrorists recently reached Afghanistan, further strengthening militant networks operating from there.

The military also pointed to the presence of $7.2 billion worth of abandoned US weapons in Afghanistan, now circulating in black markets and being used by terrorist groups.

This directly contradicts Kabul’s claim of having full and effective control over its territory.

Border reality vs Kabul’s claims

The Afghan Taliban claim that Afghanistan is secure and sovereign. But Pakistan says Afghan soil has repeatedly been used for cross-border attacks.

In October 2025, Pakistani forces targeted terrorist infrastructure along the border after attacks on Pakistani posts, eliminating dozens of hostile positions within hours.

The DG ISPR also stated clearly that Afghan nationals were involved in several major attacks, including the Jaffar Express attack, the Quetta FC headquarters attack, and attempts to replicate an APS-style assault at Cadet College Wana.

While Kabul calls Pakistan’s statements “provocative”, Islamabad’s position is based on operational evidence, arrests, and recorded confessions.

The gap between the Taliban’s claims and the ground reality, as laid out by Pakistan’s military and several international bodies, including the UN, continues to raise serious questions about Afghanistan’s role in regional security and its willingness to act against terrorist groups operating from its soil.
