Islamabad: A high-level strategic meeting has begun in the capital between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif, according to official sources. The meeting at the Prime Minister’s House is being described as highly significant in view of the current regional situation.

Civil and Military Leadership Participation

The importance of the meeting is underscored by the participation of Pakistan’s top civil and military leadership. Alongside Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir are also present in the discussions. The talks between the Iranian delegation and Pakistan’s senior leadership are focusing on regional security as well as bilateral defence and diplomatic cooperation.

Pakistan’s Mediation Role

The meeting comes at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East, with Pakistan emerging as a trusted intermediary to help ease tensions between the United States and Iran. Diplomatic sources say the central agenda includes efforts to promote regional stability and advance Pakistan’s “good offices” role in facilitating dialogue and reducing conflict between Tehran and Washington.

Strategic Consultation Process

The discussions are also reviewing the evolving situation in the Middle East, the regional impact of the Gaza conflict, and security arrangements along the Pakistan-Iran border. Analysts view this visit by the Iranian Foreign Minister and his engagement with Pakistan’s top leadership as a key component of ongoing efforts to restore regional stability and prevent further escalation of conflict risks.
