Tensions rose along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border after Afghan forces reportedly opened fire on civilian areas in the Laghari sector of Bajaur District late last night, damaging a local market and nearby properties.
According to eyewitnesses and local sources, both light and heavy weapons were used from across the border, causing panic among residents and traders.
Market and Property Damage
Reports indicate that shells and gunfire struck Laghari’s main commercial area, damaging several shops, storage facilities, and private properties. Local traders said the sudden attack caused financial losses worth millions of rupees.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.

Pakistan’s Military Response
Pakistani security forces stationed along the border responded quickly to the incident. As part of Operation Ghazab-ul-Haq, forces targeted positions across the border from where the firing originated.
Officials said the retaliatory action caused significant damage to those positions, after which the cross-border firing stopped.
Security on High Alert
Following the incident, security has been tightened in the Laghari sector and surrounding border areas. Local residents and business groups condemned the attack and called for stronger protection of civilian areas.
Authorities have advised people to remain cautious, while security forces continue to monitor the situation closely.
