China Calls for Collective Action Amid Global Instability

During the bilateral meetings, Minister Dong Jun strongly criticized the global rise of unilateralism and protectionism. He described hegemonic and coercive actions as key threats undermining international order and peace.

Furthermore, he emphasized the urgent need for SCO member states to deepen coordination within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations and the SCO. By doing so, Dong argued, nations can more effectively defend global strategic stability, fairness, and justice.

Notable Participation of Pakistan, India, and Iran

Meanwhile, the summit marks a significant moment as it brings together Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif and India’s Rajnath Singh for the first time since their border standoff in May. This face-to-face interaction is drawing attention amid heightened regional tensions.

In addition, Iran’s Defense Minister is also attending, highlighting Tehran’s growing engagement since formally joining the SCO as a full member.

Strengthened Commitment to Security Cooperation

All participating ministers commended China’s current SCO Defense Ministers’ Meeting presidency for enhancing institutional mechanisms and promoting cross-sector collaboration. They also reaffirmed their strong commitment to advancing military cooperation.

Notably, they placed particular emphasis on counter-terrorism efforts, which remain a central pillar of the SCO’s regional security agenda.

Outlook for Continued Dialogue

Subsequently, defense officials will continue their discussions on Thursday. As a result, the SCO Defense Ministers’ Meeting remains a crucial platform for fostering multilateral dialogue, enhancing military coordination, and promoting regional peace.
