The United Arab Emirates has confirmed that its last military forces have departed Yemen, calling for de-escalation following Saudi-led air strikes against southern separatists.

An unnamed Emirati official told AFP that the UAE had “concluded the presence of its counterterrorism forces” in Yemen. The official said Abu Dhabi remains committed to dialogue, de-escalation, and internationally backed political processes as the only viable path toward peace.

The announcement came days after Yemen’s internationally recognized government, backed by Saudi Arabia demanded that the UAE withdraw its forces within 24 hours. The demand followed air strikes by the Saudi-led coalition on the port city of Mukalla.

The coalition accused the UAE of delivering ships carrying armored vehicles, weapons, and ammunition to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council. Abu Dhabi has not publicly addressed the specific allegations.

The people of the city of Seiyun in Hadhramaut Governorate expressed their joy after the Southern Transitional Council (STC) militias fled the city.

Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council said “We appreciate the stance of the Coalition forces, led by Saudi Arabia, in supporting the path of de-escalation and protecting civilians.”

The withdrawal marks a significant shift in the conflict, as Yemen faces renewed efforts by Saudi-backed authorities to restore state control and limit the role of armed militias in the south.
